Our Lord in the Attic

Our Lord in the Attic is a unique museum in Amsterdam. The museum dates back to the 17th century, a time when religion could not be openly practiced by all. The church served as a hidden space (tolerated by the municipality) to practice the Catholic religion in a then Protestant-governed Amsterdam. For more information, see Our Lord in the Attic’s website.

The CoVisit Tour

The original part of Our Lord in the Attic — including the hidden church — is in a protected building with several narrow staircases. Due to building regulations and the sheer amount of different stairs and split levels, lifts cannot be installed. However, museum aims to create opportunities for inclusive, meaningful virtual ways to experience the museum.

Visitors with reduced mobility who are unable to climb stairs can ‘experience’ the hidden church through the museum’s CoVisit. The CoVisit is a virtual tour where e.g. a visitor who uses a wheelchair sits it a designated, semi-closed off area. This visitor has a personal computer screen and a headset, connected in real time to a video camera and headset of their co-visitor (a family member or friend). While the co-visitor walks through the original museum and church, both can remain in contact via microphones and cameras. The audio visual connection provides a way to virtually visit the museum together.

If you’d like to experience the CoVisit and are visiting the museum alone, a museum staff member can provide the virtual tour.

The CoVisit tour is free of charge. It must be booked in advance by calling +31(0)20 624 66 04 or emailing boekingen@opsolder.nl
